Independently tested burglary protection

DF Series safes derive a significant portion of their security from the way they’re installed. Set into a poured concrete floor, there are no removable bolts to defeat and the safe cannot be carried away. Combined with hardened steel construction and concealed installation, DF Series provides a layered security profile that’s hard to match.

Insurance ratings (AUD)

DF Series safes carry insurable ratings that your insurer can use to set sub-limits for cash and valuables:

  • Cash rating: $10,000 (DF-1) – $20,000 (DF-2 to DF-4)
  • Valuables rating: $100,000 (DF-1) – $200,000 (DF-2 to DF-4)

Specific ratings vary by model and lock specification. Your dealer can confirm the exact rating for the model you’re considering.

Concealed in-floor installation provides additional protection beyond the rated construction.

Engineering

Construction and Security Features

DF Series safes are engineered around the unique advantages of in-floor installation. Every feature below is standard across the range.

Concealed installation

Set into concrete floor — only the lid is visible, easily covered by carpet, tiles or floor furniture.

Poured concrete fixing

Permanently set into a concrete pour for the strongest installation possible. No bolts to defeat.

Solid steel construction

Heavy-gauge steel body and lid throughout. Reinforced framework provides resistance to forced-entry attacks.

Anti-drill plating

Hardened steel anti-drill plating around the lock and a relocker that engages if the lock is attacked.

5-point bolt work (DF-2 onwards)

DF-2, DF-3 and DF-4 use 5-point handle-driven bolt work for resistance to prying and forced entry.

Direct locking on DF-1

DF-1 uses a single-point direct-locking configuration with removable lid — compact and effective for the smallest installations.

Universal lock footprint

Standardised lock mounting allows easy conversion between key, combination and electronic lock types.

Textured black paint

Durable textured black paint finish provides lasting protection inside concealed installations.

For Specifiers

DS Series Specification Tips

Plan installation at floor pour stage

DF Series safes are designed to be installed when concrete is poured — retrofitting into an existing floor requires breaking out and re-pouring. Plan installation at the build stage where possible.

Choose by what you'll cover the lid with

DF-1 has a removable lid; DF-2 through DF-4 have hinged doors. If you’re covering with carpet or a rug, all four work; for tile or polished concrete you’ll typically want a removable cover.

DF-3 vs DF-4 — depth vs width

DF-3 is the same height as DF-2 but with greater depth (35L). DF-4 is wider (595mm) with similar depth — better for portfolios, jewellery rolls and larger flat items.

Lifetime Initiative

Power for Life Free batteries for the lifetime of your safe.

Every DS Series safe with an electronic or biometric lock is covered by our Power for Life initiative. Once a year, you can redeem a free replacement battery at any authorised Dominator dealer — no receipts, no conditions, for as long as you own the safe.

It's our way of making sure your safe stays accessible for decades, not just years.

Power for Life applies across the full range: HS Series, DS Series, GC Series (gun cabinets), FA Series and FX Series.

Setup

Installation

What to expect

DF Series safes must be installed at floor pour stage by your dealer or a qualified safe installer working alongside your builder. Once installed, the lid sits flush with the finished floor and is easily concealed.

Unlike floor-bolted safes, a DF Series safe cannot be removed without destroying the surrounding floor — making concealment and structural integration its primary security features.

Installation checklist

  1. 01

Coordinate installation with builder at floor-pour stage

  2. 02

Identify install position with access clearance for the lid/door

  3. 03

Plan finished floor covering (carpet, tile, polished concrete)

  4. 04

Confirm delivery access route to install location

  5. 05

Keep installation certificate for insurance records

Secondary Defence

Glass Relocker Protection

DF Series safes include a spring-loaded case relocker — a secondary locking mechanism designed to activate if the primary lock is attacked. Understanding how it works helps you know when it’s engaged and what to do if it is.

How it works

A thin glass plate is embedded behind the primary lock body. If a drilling, punch, or torch attack breaks the glass, spring-loaded secondary bolts deploy and jam the locking mechanism. Once activated, the safe cannot be opened even if the primary lock is subsequently bypassed — it requires professional recovery by a qualified safe technician.

The relocker is a permanent protection feature, not a consumable. It exists to make the safe effectively unusable to an attacker even if they partially succeed against the primary lock.

If your relocker activates

If you cannot open your safe and suspect the relocker has engaged (usually after attempted forced entry), contact your Dominator dealer immediately. Do not attempt forced opening — this can cause permanent damage to the safe body.

A qualified safe technician can recover the relocker and restore normal operation. The safe itself remains structurally sound and can usually return to service after a relocker recovery.

Maintenance and Servicing

DF Series safes require minimal maintenance but benefit from occasional service to keep locks and hinges operating smoothly through years of use.

Every 12 months

Battery replacement (electronic/biometric locks)

Redeem your free battery through Power for Life. Replace before low-battery warnings, not after.

Every 12 months

Lock lubrication (mechanical dials)

Apply a drop of lock-grade lubricant to the dial spindle annually. Avoid WD-40 or general-purpose oils — they can gum up precision movements.

Every 12 to 24 months, depending if commercial or domestic use

Professional service

Book a qualified safe technician to inspect hinges, bolt work, and relocker mechanism. Typical service takes 30–60 minutes.

Every 5 years

Seal inspection

Check fire seals (where fitted) for compression and integrity. Replace if damaged.

Support

Troubleshooting

DF Series safes include a spring-loaded case relocker — a secondary locking mechanism designed to activate if the primary lock is attacked. Understanding how it works helps you know when it’s engaged and what to do if it is.

Electronic lock won't open — no response from keypad.

Battery is most likely depleted. Replace the 9V battery and try your code again. Use a brand-new Duracell 9V Alkaline battery only. If the keypad still doesn’t respond, contact your dealer for diagnosis.

Electronic lock responds but rejects correct code.

Mechanical dial won't open — combination correct but bolts don't retract.

Lock is working, but handle does not unlock.

Safe door is difficult to open or close.

Safe is damaged or inoperable after attempted forced entry.
